Bird's Eye: Dream Australian Destinations for a Scenic Helicopter Tour

For those who aren't afraid of heights, there are few things more beautiful than seeing a landscape from above. While looking at photographs can sometimes be enough to take your breath away, flying over those views in person is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that won't quickly be forgotten. These tours also make exceptional gifts — but if you're considering purchasing a helicopter tour for somebody you love, perhaps you're undecided about where exactly they'd like to see? Australia is such a beautiful country that you're left with far too many options. Here are just a few to get your imagination flowing.

Uluru

Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is an obvious choice. This large, red monolith stands proudly in the impressive red wilderness of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park. A five hours' drive away from Alice Springs, you may find flying over by helicopter a more convenient choice to view this landmark, as well as a more impressive one. You may also consider opting to fly at dusk or dawn; it is said the lighting is most beautiful at these times.

Katoomba

Nestled in the Blue Mountains, Katoomba is a breathtaking tourist destination — and even more so by air. Though it's only an hour's drive from Sydney, the sweeping mountains and vast swaths of greenery will make you feel that you've ventured out into a forgotten abyss, untouched by human hands. There's also plenty of natural beauty on show in nearby Blackheath, so it's well worth asking whether a course can be plotted there, too.

The Kimberley

Sometimes billed as Australia's last remaining true wilderness, there's no finer landscape to explore in western Australia — or perhaps the whole country. Visit the Horizontal Falls for a taste of natural magic and fantasy, or soar over Purnululu National Park for an aerial view of the famous bee-striped Bungle Bungle Range, or one of many beautiful gorges and ravines. There's no end of things to see; you could probably fly all day and still be gasping with wonder at the next view that emerges.

Frankly, Australia is a beautiful country with a plethora of sights to choose from — so these are just a couple of ideas to start you off. It may be that you'd get just as much enjoyment from flying over a location that's significant to you as you would over a natural beauty spot, or you may be thinking of something else entirely. Wherever you visit, rest assured that you'll need to take a camera and your glasses — because you simply won't believe your eyes.
